Why Install a Surveillance System at Your Office?

Posted on

The idea of putting a surveillance system in place into your office may seem like it is an overreaction against potential crime, but it is now a part of daily life for many Australian office workers. Although there is some understandable resistance to electronic surveillance systems in some places of work, the fact is that it really does work. After all, banks and high-security storage facilities would not use it if it didn't! What are the benefits of installing your own closed-circuit television system at your office?

  • Discourage Wrongdoing

Firstly, it should be said that any type of CCTV system has a deterrent effect against opportunistic crime. Even the installation of a single camera will lead people to believe they are under constant surveillance all of the time. Okay, so it may not put off a determined professional criminal who has thoroughly checked out all of the security measures you have in place. That said, such systems are primarily there to prevent opportunistic criminality and anti-social behaviour rather than serious crimes.

  • Make Your Staff Feel Safer

By fitting some form of surveillance system at the entrance points to your office, you can help to make your own staff feel more secure at work. If they know that everybody who is coming and going at their place of work has been filmed, then they should feel safer as a result, especially when visitors are commonplace. This is particularly the case for anyone who works on their own late at night after usual office hours.

  • Observe Your Employees

A CCTV system does not simply monitor the activities of unauthorised people in your office; it keeps an eye on your own workforce, as well. In nearly all places of work, there is some level of petty theft. Office workers may help themselves to small items that belong to the company. Equally, they can sometimes steal from one another. By simply having a camera or two around the place, such low-level criminality should come to an end completely.

  • A System That Pays for Itself

When you have cameras safeguarding your business premises, it makes a big difference in the insurance premiums your business pays out for. Most insurers offer lower annual rates if your office is secured with a proper surveillance system. As such, installing one could become cost-effective within the space of just a couple of years and even pay for itself immediately if it deters a break-in.
